AshleysHomeSpun Opinions:

When I first went to this shop, I could see a lot of cute items. The tutu's made me wish for a little girl, and she has the sections down great. But the most of the photos left me, in a way, annoyed. Lighting is a definate problem, there are so many cute items in this shop but I just glanced over almost all of them and the one photo of an item with a lil model was just too dark to strike my interest. This shop has AMAZING stuff, don't get me wrong, if she improves the photos it will be hard for anyone to resisit them. I rate this shop 3/5 hearts ♥♥♥. Tell me in the comments what you rate this store, and why.

EllaBugInspired Interview

1. Tell us a bit about yourself - name, location, affiliations, personal stuff ( well, not too personal)

My name is Roxy and I live in Arizona. My husband is in the Air Force, so this is home for now.

2. Apart from creating things, what do you do?

I am a SAHM mom finishing up my degree in Human Services. I have 2 beautiful and crazy kids, Jonathan, 5 and Ella, 10 months. I love to read, watch movies and spend time with family and friends.

3. What first made you want to become an artist?

When my husband left to join the Air Force I found myself with a lot of time on my hands. My sister talked me into take a cake decorating class with her. That is when I discovered how creative I really was. A few years later we learned we were expecting a baby girl. After all these years of dinosaurs and cars I finally had girly things to shop for. Things starting getting expensive and I told myself “Self, you’re creative, you can make this stuff!” Boy was I right =)

4. Please describe your creative process how, when, materials, etc.

My creative process is really simple. I am easily inspired by my Ella’s wardrobe and her spunky little personality. Every mother thinks their baby is beautiful and looks wonderful in everything and I am no different. I figure if she looks cute in it, other mommies will think their baby girls look cute in it too. I usually sit in my loft, with tulle and ribbon everywhere, fighting Ella from stealing my supplies and listening to a story about some dinosaur my son loves and I just begin to create something new.

5. What handmade possession do you most cherish?

My apron! My grandmother made me an apron when I was about 2 years old to match hers. I would sit in the kitchen with her and help her cook with my little apron on. I always knew I wanted a little girl and I hoped that one day she would be able to wear that too while helping my mother and I in the kitchen. I still have the apron and it is hanging in Ella’s closet just waiting for her to grow into it.

9. What advice would you give to artists who are new to Etsy?

Don’t get discouraged. It all takes time and a lot of work on your part. I know I thought all I had to do was list an item and it would sell. You have to network and try to promote yourself any way you can to get the exposure you need. It is something I try to work on every day.

10. What are your favorite features on Etsy? What new features would you like to see?

My favorite feature is the view counts. It lets me know what people like to see the most in my shop. I wish I was able to who is sharing my page. I know when I run across an item I think would be cute for my friends; I send them a link or share it on Facebook or twitter.

11. How do you promote your work?

I mainly use my Facebook page and Twitter. Ever since starting pages in both sites, my views have increased.

12. In ten years, where would you like to be????

In ten years I would love to be living in Europe, with a few more kids added to the family and booming Etsy shop =)
